weekly mix #40

October seems to be a very popular theme for songs, at least as far as my music collection goes. I’m hoping to feature one song about October for every mix this month. One down, three to go.

  1. Be Your Own Pet – October, First Account
  2. Wild Flag – Romance
  3. The Blood Brothers – Spit Shine Your Black Clouds
  4. As Tall As Lions – In Case of Rapture
  5. Rob Dickinson – Handsome
  6. Christine Perfect – Close To Me
  7. Said The Whale – Goodnight Moon
  8. Gem Club – Twins
  9. Duke Special – You Press The Button, We Do The Rest
snap snap snap snap snap they go, why they snap they do not know
  10. Emmy The Great – Paper Forest (In The Afterglow of Rapture)

weekly mix #40

Expect a barrage of posts in the coming days as I catch up on posting my mixes from the weeks I was away.

As it is wont to do, my iPod “broke” the second I tried to use it while on vacation. The whole thing seemed corrupted, but managed to magically fix itself after I let the whole battery run out and then recharge with the new AC adapter I bought. This resurrection did not occur until the next to last day of vacation (seriously). So these mixes are a bit spotty as I didn’t have access to the music during those weeks. Also, can I just say how great it is to listen to music again? I had to take a little three minute moment in the hotel room when my iPod started up again just to recharge myself aurally, as it were.

This is the mix for 10/07/2010.

  1. Tori Amos – Upside Down
I’m okay when everything is not okay.
  2. Best Coast – When I’m With You
Can’t remember when this came up, possibly because I was looking for some Best Coast to add to this mix this week. I skipped their NYC show to hang out at my favorite bar and drink Stoli & Soda and photograph hexagons. I had this song in my head for the rest of the week, but I’m not sorry.
  3. Dramarama – Whenever I’m With Her
The answer to the last song.
  4. Depeche Mode – Blasphemous Rumours
Don’t know where this came from, don’t know where it’s going, aside from stright into the next song.
  5. Firewater – Bourbon & Division
Found” this disc again back at my mom’s house. This song came coming into my head when I got to Italy as wouldn’t leave me for a while.
  6. The Tallest Man On Earth – Pistol Dreams
Throw me in the fire now, come on. Still reeling from the show the week before, a line in this song really hit me when I heard him sing it live. I will boil the curtains to extract the drugs of springtime.
  7. David Bowie – Art Decade
We took a tour of some fancy building in Florence and saw some art. It was kind of funny how the other people on the tour were really, really into the art.
  8. Daniel Lavoie & Bruno Pelletier – Florence
    It fit the bill.
  9. Roman Candle – I Wish I Was in New York
    Yeah. Europe is Europe.
  10. Smokey Robinson & The Miracles – Tracks of My Tears
I spent an afternoon in a hotel room watching the Spectacle episode with Smokey Robinson. This song came up a lot.
